Award-Winning Journalist Jericka Duncan Joins Zeta Phi Beta as Honorary Member
In a momentous ceremony held at Howard University on September 19, 2023, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, welcomed 12 distinguished women into its Alpha Omega Chapter as Honorary Members. Among these esteemed individuals, Jericka Duncan, an award-winning national news correspondent for CBS and a prominent figure in the field of journalism, took her place as an Honorary Member.
Jericka Duncan has been a vital part of CBS News since 2013. Her impressive career includes covering high-profile cases such as the accusations against R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, and Harvey Weinstein, as well as the tragic shooting deaths of four Marines and a Navy sailor in Chattanooga. Her reporting has extended to global events, including the 70th anniversary of D-Day and Normandy.
Among Duncan’s notable achievements is her comprehensive coverage of the 2020 presidential election in Pennsylvania and her interview with the mother of Breonna Taylor, a heart-wrenching moment in journalism where she had to deliver the news to the CBS audience that no one would be charged directly with Taylor’s death. Additionally, Duncan was one of the first network correspondents on the ground in Alabama to cover the passage of that state’s most restrictive abortion bill since Roe v. Wade.
Jericka Duncan’s commitment to journalistic excellence has earned her numerous accolades, including being nominated for an Emmy Award. She has also received two National Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association, honors from the Associated Press, and recognition as Journalist of the Year in 2012 from the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
What makes Jericka Duncan’s induction into Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated particularly special is her deep-rooted connection to the organization. She is a Zeta Phi Beta legacy, hailing from a long line of Zeta Phi Beta legacy members, including her grandmother, great aunts, and aunts. This family tradition has undoubtedly shaped her dedication to the principles of Zeta Phi Beta, such as Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood.
As an Honorary Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Ms. Duncan is poised to bring her talents to advance various initiatives. She has expressed a strong commitment to working with the American Cancer Society, contributing to Mental Health Awareness, and actively participating in Zetas Have Heart, aligning her philanthropic goals with the organization’s mission.
Gina Merritt-Epps, Esq., International First Vice President for Membership of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, acknowledged the significance of Jericka Duncan’s induction, recognizing her as a distinguished figure in the world of journalism and an embodiment of Zeta’s principles.
