Watch The Yard Announces Partnership with Step Afrika! for the Inaugural Step Afrika! Step Classic
Watch The Yard is proud to announce its role as the official media sponsor for the inaugural Step Afrika! Step Classic, a groundbreaking three-day celebration of culture, community, and the power of stepping. Taking place February 14-16, 2025, in Washington, DC, the event promises to bring together the country’s top step teams, paying homage to the tradition’s roots in the Divine Nine while showcasing the dynamic evolution of this art form.
Step Afrika! has spent three decades traveling the world and preserving and advancing the art form of stepping. Now, with the Step Classic, Step Afrika! is taking stepping to new heights. Unlike traditional step competitions, the Step Classic is a celebration of energy, creativity, and the precision that defines stepping as one of the most electrifying performance art forms in the world today.
“I’m hyped to be hosting the first-ever Step Afrika! Step Classic. Stepping is more than just movement—it’s culture, community, and straight-up power. This event is going to be electric, and I can’t wait to see these teams bring it to the stage,” said Lala Milan, the special guest MC for the event. Milan, a comedian, actress, and digital content creator, is best known for her work on Boomerang and A Black Lady Sketch Show, and will bring her infectious energy to the stage.
The Step Classic Step Show—the centerpiece of the weekend—will take place on Sunday, February 16, at 6:00 PM at the historic Warner Theatre in downtown Washington, DC. Featuring performances from the nation’s best step teams, the event will highlight artistry, athleticism, and unity in a thrilling display of stepping excellence.
Weekend Schedule In addition to the grand finale Step Show, the weekend will feature several community-centered events:
- Friday, February 14: Welcome reception to kick off the festivities.
- Saturday, February 15: Step Afrika! Community Day, featuring music, a stroll exhibition, and activities for all ages.
- Sunday, February 16: Step Afrika! Step Show at the Warner Theatre.
