Olympic Gold Medalist Bianca Knight Inducted as Honorary Member of Sigma Gamma Rho

At the 60th International Biennial Boule in Houston this weekend, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. proudly inducted Bianca Knight as an Honorary Member.

Bianca Knight is a former track and field athlete renowned for her exceptional performance in the 100 and 200 meters. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Knight was a key member of the U.S. 4×100 meters relay team that won a gold medal and set a new world record, breaking a 27-year-old record in the process. Born in Pearl, Mississippi, Knight’s early involvement in track and field from the age of 11 was instrumental in building her confidence and shaping her aspirations. Her commitment to grassroots programming and youth development is a central focus of her work with the Bianca Knight Foundation.

The Bianca Knight Foundation is dedicated to promoting excellence in youth track and field through clinics, competitive meets, and financial grants. The foundation addresses disparities between low-income communities and access to resources, offering vital support and mentorship to coaches, schools, and student-athletes. Knight’s efforts in this area have been widely recognized, and on May 23, 2024, she will receive the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Biden and Vice President Harris for her outstanding contributions to empowering girls in sports.

In her current role as an Assistant Track & Field Coach (Sprints) at Queens University in Charlotte, NC, Knight is committed to fostering an environment of excellence and sisterhood. She expressed a keen interest in connecting Sigma Gamma Rho’s sisterhood with the university, aiming to create opportunities for Black and Brown women to experience the benefits of both sisterhood and academic excellence.

Bianca Knight’s induction into Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. highlights her remarkable achievements and her unwavering dedication to empowering the next generation. Alongside Knight, Sigma Gamma Rho also welcomed twelve other distinguished women as honorary members: Krystal Harris, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Sharon Moody, LaTavia Roberson, Kim Roxie, April Showers, Kera Wright, Bettina Benson, Rebekah Borucki, Jackie Chambers de Freitas, Kelley Gay, and Dwan Martin.
