In a historic ceremony at Dr. Lester Brown Park, the City of Miami Gardens and the Miami Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., celebrated the renaming of a street to “Kappa Alpha Psi Way.” This honor recognizes the fraternity’s long-standing legacy of leadership, community service, and achievement.

The new street name, which will be officially placed on 32nd Avenue, symbolizes the impact of Kappa Alpha Psi, the second-oldest historically Black collegiate fraternity in the United States. Chartered in 1946, the Miami Alumni Chapter has been a cornerstone of civic engagement in the region for decades.

“This is more than a street—it’s a symbol of the impact of brotherhood, leadership, and service in our community,” the fraternity stated.

The event brought together fraternity members, Miami Gardens officials, and Miami-Dade County leaders. Councilman Reggie Leon, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., partnered with Kappa Alpha Psi as well as Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, III, to bring the initiative to fruition.

Amidst the camaraderie, attendees reflected on the importance of the street renaming as a lasting tribute to the fraternity’s mission of “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.”

As attendees gathered to celebrate the unveiling, the fraternity expressed gratitude to the City of Miami Gardens, Mayor Rodney Harris, Councilman Leon, and Commissioner Gilbert for their efforts in making the vision a reality.

The renaming of Kappa Alpha Psi Way not only honors the fraternity’s storied past but also serves as an enduring symbol of its contributions to the community and its dedication to future generations.
