Gamma Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Awarded Multiple Top Honors at Western Province Council

The Gamma Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., representing the University of California, Berkeley, San Francisco State University, and the University of San Francisco, received multiple prestigious honors at the 78th Western Province Council, held March 12–16 in Long Beach, California. The chapter’s outstanding achievements in leadership, academics, and community engagement were recognized with several high-profile awards.
Among the distinctions earned, Gamma Alpha was named the Peter Butler Jr. Undergraduate Chapter of the Year, an honor awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate chapter in the Western Province, as determined by the Achievement Commission. The chapter was also recognized for its academic excellence, earning the Outstanding Chapter G.P.A. Award for maintaining the highest grade point average among all undergraduate chapters in the region. Additionally, their dedication to documentation and preservation of fraternity history was acknowledged with the Sterling Dover Scrapbook Award, recognizing the best-recorded documentation of chapter activities.
In addition to the chapter’s collective success, Brother Ethan Monroe distinguished himself by winning three prestigious individual awards. Monroe was honored with the Robert L. Harris, Esq. Province Polemarch Award, which is presented to an individual whose contributions to the Western Province have been truly exceptional. He also received the E. Lionel Davis Undergraduate Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments as a member of the fraternity. Furthermore, Monroe’s commitment to civic engagement earned him the Curtis R. Silvers Civic Merit Award, highlighting his exemplary contributions both on and off campus.
This recognition follows the chapter’s national distinction at the 86th Grand Chapter Meeting in 2023, where Gamma Alpha was honored with the Edward G. Irvin Undergraduate Chapter of the Year Award—the highest national honor bestowed upon undergraduate chapters for exceptional achievement.
Beyond the undergraduate accolades, Brother Tyrone Guillory Jr., who serves as the Western Province Director of Operations, Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Western Province Programming Director, and Gamma Alpha Chapter Advisor, was awarded the James L. Bradford Award at the 78th Western Province Council. This award recognizes outstanding service to the Western Province, with criteria requiring at least five consecutive years of exceptional service, active participation in Province Council meetings with a minimum 70% attendance, and good standing at all levels of the fraternity.
Brother Guillory’s long-standing contributions to Kappa Alpha Psi have also been recognized on a national scale. In 2022, he received the Randall C. Bacon Alumni Achievement Award, honoring his exceptional impact within the Western Province. In 2023, he was awarded the Founders’ Grand Chapter Advisor Award, the highest recognition granted exclusively to an alumni member for outstanding mentorship and leadership.
The achievements of Gamma Alpha Chapter and its members proves yet again a legacy of academic excellence, leadership, and civic engagement within Kappa Alpha Psi’s Western Province. With national and regional accolades, the chapter continues to uphold the fraternity’s values of achievement and service, setting a standard for undergraduate members across the country.
