Harlem Renaissance Artist and Poet Gwendolyn Bennett Was A Member Of Delta Sigma Theta
Did you know that Gwendolyn Bennet was a member of Delta Sigma Theta? Bennet pledged the Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Gwendolyn Bennet was born in Giddings, Texas, and was raised in Wadsworth, Nevada. She was an African American artist, writer, and journalist who was a part of the Harlem Renaissance. She is most known for her short story “Wedding Day”, a piece that explored interracial relationships.
She was a strong advocate for African American rights during the Harlem Renaissance. Bennet raised the bar when it came to literature and education. One of her contributions to the Harlem Renaissance was her short novel Poets Evening, a piece that helped African American communities identify and accept themselves.
