Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins Inducted as Honorary Member of Delta Sigma Theta
Ambassador Bonnie Denise Jenkins, an esteemed expert on arms control and international security, was inducted into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at the 56th National Convention in Indianapolis this week. The induction ceremony celebrated her exceptional career and dedication to promoting global peace, reflecting the sorority’s commitment to recognizing trailblazing women.
Alongside Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins, the roster of distinguished inductees for this year’s 2023 convention include Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson; former Chairman and CEO of BET Networks, Debra Lee; President of MSNBC, Rashida Jones; prominent television executive and producer, Channing Dunge; retired WNBA legend and Olympic gold medalist, Tamika Catchings; and esteemed businesswoman and technology entrepreneur, Phyllis Newhouse.
During the Obama administration, Ambassador Jenkins served as the U.S. Department of State’s coordinator for threat reduction programs in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation. Her pivotal role included coordinating U.S. efforts on threat reduction globally and working on chemical, biological, nuclear, and radiological security.
Recognized for her diplomatic efforts, she led initiatives to promote the Global Health Security Agenda, building countries’ capacity to respond to infectious disease threats. Ambassador Jenkins also focused on countering CBRN threats in Africa, ensuring well-coordinated U.S. programs met the needs of African partners.
Beyond her government service, she founded Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS), an advocacy organization supporting women of color in the security and peace-building sector.
As an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins joins a distinguished sisterhood of trailblazing women. The sorority’s recognition reflects their commitment to honoring exceptional individuals who embody sisterhood, scholarship, and service.
