Community Responds to the Tragic Death of La’Tavion Johnson at Tuskegee Homecoming by Raising Money for His Family
Following the tragic shooting during Tuskegee University’s homecoming that claimed the life of 18-year-old La’Tavion Johnson and injured multiple others, a fundraising campaign has been launched to support Johnson’s family. La’Tavion, who had just secured a role with the Alabama Department of Transportation, was remembered as a dedicated young man committed to his family and community.
The GoFundMe campaign aims to assist Johnson’s parents, Tamika and Larry Johnson, as they face ongoing financial and emotional challenges in the wake of their son’s death. According to the website, while insurance will cover funeral expenses, the funds raised through the campaign are intended to help the family find stability and focus on grieving without added financial strain. As of Monday, November 18th, $11,345 had been raised toward the $50,000 goal.
The incident has left the community in shock and prompted an outpouring of support. Contributions have been framed as a way for people to show solidarity with the Johnsons during this difficult time. Organizers have noted that each donation, regardless of size, provides meaningful assistance.
The GoFundMe campaign can be accessed here. According to the site, the funds will be directed toward supporting the Johnson family as they navigate their loss and seek healing.
