Many of you have seen viral videos of him online, but did you know that the poet Prentice Powell is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha?
Prentice crossed his beloved fraternity at the Epsilon Mu Chapter located at San Jose State University in California and has since gone on to achieve great lengths of success through his poetry. In the last three years alone, he has been featured on Verses and Flow as well as the Arsenio Hall show and was a 2013 NAACP Image Award Nominee.
Through his poetry, Prentice challenges the Black community with a dark view of the way we are raising our current generation of young people and makes people think about ways to change the world for the better.
Alpha Phi Alpha, Prentice’s fraternity, has always been a brotherhood of “voices”. The fraternity includes the likes of Martin Luther King, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Fredrick Douglas who all powerfully spoke volumes on the state of Black America in their respective generations. We at WatchTheYard.com believe that Prentice keeps this tradition alive among the millennial generation in the true spirit this legacy.
