In response to Morehouse College President John S. Wilson’s 2013 plea for increased alumni giving in reaction to drastically scaled back federal funding for HBCUs, the brothers of the Alpha Rho Chapter Alumni Association (APCAA) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. created a scholarship endowment fund for the school and have already hit their $200,000 milestone.
Yes, that is correct! The Alphas who are alumni of Morehouse have raised $200,000 for their school!
“On October 4, 2015 the APCAA received an anonymous $20,000 year-end pledge that pushed the campaign over the campaign goal and solidified financial support for deserving undergrads for years to come.” AtlantaDailyWorld.com states.
Alpha Rho was chartered on Saturday, January 5, 1924 and celebrated its 91st anniversary last year. Brothers from their 855-member alumni group of Morehouse Men will be gathered by the hundreds during the Morehouse homecoming 2015 celebrations on Friday (October 25th) to dedicate a permanent memorial obelisk in honor of the chapter’s legacy on Century Campus Green between Sale Hall and Hope Hall. On February 5th, 2016 the brothers of Alpha Rho released a small documentary on the dedication ceremony for the obelisk and sent the video to WatchTheYard.com.
Watch it below:
We at WatchTheYard would like to congratulate the brothers on their endowment! Once again, Alpha Phi Alpha has heard a call for help and organized brothers to put their money where their mouths are to assist. Please share this great news on Facebook with your network!
