Alpha Phi Alpha FAMU Grad Creates Children’s Book About ‘The Talk’ Black Dads Have With Their Sons
With the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others, FAMU alum and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. member, Michael Woodward Jr., has penned a new children’s book to address “The Talk” that many Black men have with their sons.
The book which he wrote for his sons is titled “The Talk: Conversations Between A Black Father and His Son.”
According to Woodward, “The book serves as a manual for Black fathers around the country to help have difficult conversations with their sons on the matters of race, discrimination and police brutality. It uses powerful imagery and illustrations to amplify messaging that #BlackLivesMatter and prepares young Black boys for life’s toughest moments.”
Woodard is a former elementary teacher who has found himself back in the classroom as a current PhD student at Barry University in Miami, FL. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Florida A&M University and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
“The Talk: Conversations Between A Black Father and His Son” is the sixth book in a full series from Woodward. Some of the other books include: “King Monte Are You My P.E. Teacher?,” “Forever a Scholar,” “Father Father: An Ode to the Fatherless,” and more.
