Alpha Kappa Alpha Soror Reyna Walters-Morgan Elected DNC Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation

Reyna Walters-Morgan was elected Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation (CEVP) at the Democratic National Committee’s Winter Meeting last Saturday, securing 210 votes out of 409. With this election, Walters-Morgan becomes the highest-ranking Black official at the DNC.

A North Carolina native, Walters-Morgan is an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Howard University School of Law. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, having joined the sorority’s Theta Pi Chapter in the Spring of 1997 at UNC Chapel Hill. Throughout her career, Walters-Morgan has embodied the sorority’s commitment to service and leadership, particularly in the realm of civic engagement and voter participation.

Walters-Morgan has built a career in law and civic engagement, previously serving as the DNC’s Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Director for nearly five years. Most recently, she was an appointee in the Biden-Harris administration at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Walters-Morgan was endorsed by several key Democratic coalitions, including the North Carolina DNC delegation, High School Democrats of America, and the Young Democrats of America, which was the only organization to issue a recommendation in her race.

During her tenure at the DNC, Walters-Morgan led two of the party’s largest voter protection programs: the 2020 presidential election initiative and the 2022 midterm program, which received national recognition. She played a central role in shifting voter protection efforts from a focus on Election Day operations to year-round advocacy and organizing efforts aimed at addressing and resolving voter access issues.

As she steps into her new role, Walters-Morgan is expected to continue shaping Democratic voter engagement strategies. Her focus will be on enhancing voter outreach and protection initiatives as the party looks ahead to upcoming election cycles.
