Alpha Kappa Alpha’s North Atlantic Region Just Donated $25,000 to The Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium
The sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are doing great work in regards to helping fight COVID-19 in our communities.
The sorority’s North Atlantic Region recently presented a $25,000 donation to Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium along with $7,000 donations to two additional Philadelphia organizations at their regional conference.
According to their website, the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium focuses on education and advocacy for African Americans to reduce the incidence of disease and death from coronavirus. The consortium was formed because African Americans are being diagnosed at a disproportionately higher rate than other groups and are dying from coronavirus at a higher rate than other groups.
The consortium has built a mobile COVID-19 testing & vaccination operation to provide a testing and vaccination alternative that is barrier free and to assist in providing protection from the coronavirus disease in the hardest-hit areas of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s North Atlantic Region presented donations to two other local Philadelphia organizations as a part of their annual regional conference this year. The additional checks for $7,000 each were given to No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit women’s health organization and Chosen 300 Ministries, a local organization that distributes meals to those in need.
The North Atlantic region is led by Regional Director Mary Bentley LaMar and is the birthplace of Alpha Kappa Alpha and home to 147 graduate and undergraduate chapters in Massachusetts, Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, DC, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
