Alpha Phi Alpha’s Roland Martin Schools Wendy Williams On Her Show For Ignorant Comments About HBCUs
Wendy Williams has apologized for the statement she made last week about the NAACP and historically black colleges and universities after meeting with TV One host and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. member, Roland Martin on her show.
On July 7th, during the ‘Hot Topics’ segment of her show, Wendy gave her thoughts on Jesse Williams’ speech at the BET awards, saying:
“I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP.”
Wendy received so much backlash from Black twitter that Chevrolet pulled out as a sponsor of her show reportedly as a result of her comments. TV One host, Roland Martin, went on air and publicly attacked Wendy for her comments as well. Watch the clip of what he said below:
After hearing Roland’s statement, Wendy invited him on her show and apologized for her comments and then allowed Roland to give her and the audience some schooling on the history of black people in America from 1619 (when the first slaves arrived in the Americas) to today.
During their conversation, Roland’s fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, is brought up and Wendy states that her father, her brother and her brother-in-law are also Alphas.
