LAMIK Founder Kim Roxie Inducted as Honorary Member of Sigma Gamma Rho

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. inducted Kim Roxie as an Honorary Membersh during its 60th International Biennial Boule held in Houston today. Roxie is a successful entrepreneur in the cosmetic industry with her company LAMIK and a breast cancer advocate.

Kim Roxie’s passion for beauty was ignited during her college years when she worked as a makeup artist at a local mall. Her dream of creating a makeup line took shape with the support of her mother, who became her first investor with a $500 contribution. In 2004, Roxie launched LAMIK, a local makeup shop in Houston, Texas, designed to offer personalized beauty services to women.

The turning point in Roxie’s career came in 2011 when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. This personal challenge prompted Roxie to scrutinize the ingredients in her mother’s makeup products, leading to the discovery of harmful substances like parabens and talc. After her mother’s passing in 2014, Roxie committed herself to providing women of color with safe and natural beauty care. In March 2020, she relaunched LAMIK as an e-commerce brand, debuting with a brow kit born out of her own struggle with hair loss.

Roxie’s entrepreneurial achievements have garnered widespread recognition. She has been honored by BET and Ebony Magazine and was named one of the 100 Female Founder Honorees by American Express in 2020. In 2022, the Tory Burch Foundation selected her as the Texas Representative. Additionally, LAMIK made history as the first Texas-based African American-owned cosmetics line featured on the Home Shopping Network.

In tribute to her mother, Kim Roxie established The Rose Foundation’s African American Women’s Initiative. The foundation focuses on Breast Cancer Awareness and leads fundraising efforts to support research and support services for those affected by the disease.

Kim Roxie joins a distinguished group of newly inducted honorary members of Sigma Gamma Rho, including Krystal Harris, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Bianca Knight, Sharon Moody, April Showers, Kera Wright, Bettina Benson, Rebekah Borucki, Jackie Chambers de Freitas, Kelley Gay, and Dwan Martin.
