Black Greekdom Mourns The Passing of Alpha Kappa Alpha Soror Nichelle Nichols
Black greekdom is currently mourning the death of iconic actor and Nichelle Nichols, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. who passed away on Saturday night due to natural causes at the age of 89.
Nichols is famous for her role as Lt. Commander Nyota Uhura on Star Trek: The Original Series. As Uhura she was an integral part of the multicultural “Star Trek” cast, and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. heralded her as “the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a Black woman in television history.”
Nichelle Nichols was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Alpha in June 2002.
The sorority took to social media to celebrate their soror’s life.
We ask that you keep Nichelle Nichols’ family, friends, fans and sorority sisters in your thoughts. We also ask that you leave your condolences and memories of her so that her family can see how much ehe meant to all of us throughout her illustrious career.
