Civil Rights Leader Vivian Osborne Marsh Was A National President Of Delta Sigma Theta

Did you know that civil rights icon Vivian Osborne Marsh was a member of Delta Sigma Theta? Marsh pledged the Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Vivian Osborne Marsh was an African American woman based in San Francisco, California. She served as president of the California State Association of Colored Women and national president of Delta Sigma Theta. In 1914, she graduated from Berkeley High School. She then went on to get her bachelor’s degree in anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley (1920) and her master’s degree (1922). Her master thesis was titled “Types and Distribution of Negro Folklore in America.”

She chartered the Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. Throughout her life, she remained active with Delta Sigma Theta and was the sorority’s seventh president from 1935 to 1939.
