NPHC at Texas A&M Coaches White Sororities In Stepping For Their 2015 StompFest

The National Pan-Hellenic Council at Texas A&M University recently held their 18th Annual Stompfest, the stepping was AMAZING, well put together and performed flawlessly but there is a chance it may ruffle some feathers.

The Stompfest helped raise money for the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s Philanthropy programs such as Uniting Divine Sistahs, Distinguished Gentleman’s Club, and African American Student Leadership Institute (AASLI ). For it, Divine 9 fraternities coached non-NPHC (predominantly white) sororities on step show performances that used their Black fraternity and sorority steps and signature moves (canes, ivies, training and hopping.) The theme of the step show was Disney movies and was flawlessly put together!

According to the event’s website:

“Aggieland Stompfest is a unique step show that partners an NPHC organization with a Collegiate Pan-Hellenic (CPC) organization. The NPHC group will educate the CPC group on the art and history of stepping and ultimately aid the group in the choreographing and learning of a step routine that will be performed on the evening of the fifteenth. The purpose of this step show is to educate CPC organizations, and other cultures about the roots of African-American culture and the art of stepping. It is our hope that this step show will foster positive relationships between all Greek organizations on campus. The profits from this event support NPHC philanthropic and programming for the year.”

We really like this idea of raising money and promoting intercultural exchange on campus to foster cross-cultural bonds but we want to know what you think about the fact that signature AKA, Zeta, SGRho, Alpha, Kappa, and Que moves were used.

At the end of the day, this was an AMAZING step show and the mentee sororities followed their NPHC mentors to do an amazing job planning and performing with precision and creativity. From the costumes, to the themes, to the steps, you can tell that a lot of great planning and training was do in order to do this step show!
