Leonidas Berry, The Inventor Of The Berry Endoscope Was A Member Of Alpha Phi Alpha

Did you know that healthcare pioneer Leonidas Berry was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha? Berry pledged the Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Leonidas Harris Berry was an African American inventor and medical professional. He played a pivotal role in the advancement of gastroscopy and endoscopy. Berry was born in Woodsdale, Person County, North Carolina. In 1924, he graduated from Wilberforce University. In addition, he earned a B.S. degree from the University of Chicago and his M.D. degree in pathology from the Rush Medical College of the University.
Leonidas is most remembered for serving as the president of the National Medical Association from 1965-1966. He is also credited with inventing the Berry Endoscope.
