Alphas
Entire Chapter Of Alphas In Virginia Shaved Their Heads Bald To Raise Awareness For Alopecia
Yeah you say you are about service but would you go to the extent of cutting all of your hair off in order to help other people? Well the Upsilon Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha was!
These young brothers held a “Bald For A Cause” event at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA, to raise awareness for Alopecia. Alopecia is a condition that causes individuals to lose portions of their hair on their scalp and/or body and in some cases may cause them to go completely bald. A local organization, Beautiful Kids Organization (BKO), founded by Tieshe Matthews, works to raise awareness for Alopecia, raise funds for research, and supplies wigs to children (primarily young girls) who suffer from the medical condition and these Alphas wanted to help them out.
In true Alpha spirit, the brothers from the Upsilon Beta chapter decided that they wanted to help this nobel cause and each agreed to shave their head bald for every $70 that they raised in donations. They raised $300 total and while they were not able to raise $70 for each head, every brother in the chapter agreed to get shaved bald anyway to raise awareness of alopecia and to stand in solidarity to people who have it.
We at WatchTheYard.com want to commend these brothers for their amazing work in the community. Please share with your networks to show what young greeks are doing to make their communities better. Hopefully by sharing this you will encourage others to do the same.
Take a look at some pictures from the event below:
