Silver Sorors! This Mini-Doc About Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Silver Star Celebration Is So Heartwarming

There is nothing like the love and excitement that happens when members of a Black sorority come together to celebrate their years of sisterhood.

Victoria Fleary, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., recently made a beautiful mini-documentary about her celebration of 25 years in her sorority that blew us at Watch The Yard away. Fleary, who was initiated as a member of the Charter Line for Rho Theta Chapter – located at Pace University, NYC Campus on December 4, 1994, teamed up with videographer Vincent M. Morris, Jr. to document the North Atlantic Region of the sorority’s Silver Star Celebration this past April in Atlantic City.

“It’s no small thing to become a Silver Star in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. or to celebrate 25 years of membership in any organization for that matter.” Fleary told Watch The Yard.

“As I was preparing for this momentous occasion I was trying to get an idea of what to expect. Outside of some verbal descriptions and still picture albums, there was no moving visual representation that laid out what one of these celebrations entailed.  At that point I decided that I would detail  the experience for those looking to understand why and how we celebrate.  There are lots of videos that show you what it looks like to probate and have a coming out show or a debut of your line.  But these organizations by virtue talk of their longevity.  The promise you make to serve your community all your life.  We need to see that more.”

The mini-doc she created includes a powerful narration and  follows her and her line sisters through the celebration, powerfully showing the multigenerational love that one finds in Alpha Kappa Alpha.

“I love my line sisters because our story was so unique,” she told Watch The Yard about the importance of celebrating this moment with her line sisters. ” Fate brought us together in such an extraordinary way and no matter what we’ve gone through or how our lives have changed, we remain true sisters.  There for one another no matter what.   What a line should be.  I’m really blessed to have them.”
