These Women of Alpha Kappa Alpha from University of Virginia Celebrated Their Line’s 20th AKAversary with Class
The Spring 1998 line of Alpha Kappa Alpha at the University of Virginia recently celebrated their line’s 20th AKAversary and they did it with style.
The ladies, who crossed through the ‘Thoroughly Kaptivating’ Theta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on the grounds of the University of Virginia, celebrated with a reunion to renew and strengthen their bonds of sisterhood.
“As 2018 approached we wanted to have a reunion to celebrate 20 years of being in the this sisterhood and 20 years of being line sisters and friends,” one of the women told Watch The Yard. “After many conference calls, text messages and yes, even a few disagreements, (lol) we settled on a reunion in the DMV (DC, MD, Northern Va). We had an amazing time!!! From an AKA themed slumber party, to a winery tour, dinner at Sax in D.C, a professional photo shoot, Escape Room live adventure to brunch, we took time to renew the bonds of sisterhood.”
We at Watch The Yard asked Kristina, one of the sorors on the line what sisterhood has meant to her since joining Alpha Kappa Alpha 20 years ago,
“Through the years we’ve grown ( some are married, or in different cities) but we’ve never grown apart. We don’t speak everyday but you don’t need to speak to family daily to have love for one another. That’s sisterhood,” she stated.
“When I think about sisterhood and especially sisterhood with my line sisters, I think about 20 years of laughter and encouragement, celebrations of graduations, weddings and births, crying over disappointments, and knowing when life hits hard (illness, death, relationships etc) I can call my Soror even if we haven’t spoken in ages and there is someone always willing to listen. For that I want to say to the amazing women of Alpha Kappa Alpha and especially Spr. 98 Theta Kappa, Conspiracy Theory, THANK YOU. I love how we push each other to be better, even if we don’t know we’re influencing our sister, we are.”
